But there are other, lesser publicised myths about Idun. In one lesser-known story, Idun descends from Asgard to Midgard (High Earth to Low Earth), where she becomes trapped and frozen with fear. In this state she is unable to save herself and return to Asgard and catastrophe will ensue if the situation isn't resolved as the gods are dependent on her. This myth reflects her autumnal nature - as we move into the darker period of the year. In this myth, the situation is resolved when she is gifted a wolf-skin to wear; and by putting it on, she gains the power of the wolf. Helping her to become fierce, instinctive, courageous and strong in order to navigate the shadows and ultimately find her way back to Asgard.
